3R Academy is a pilot programme that includes 180 classes of school-children in the 10 provinces in which there are member-organizations of the Polish Green Network. The pupils learn to identify the marketing tricks that make us buy more than we need.

The students learn also how to re-use „single use” products and revise what they know about waste segregation.

 

As well as gaining this valuable knowledge, the young consumers are being given the opportunity to mobilise their local community. They can conduct interviews at school, at home and in local shops, to make others more aware of problems associated with waste.

 

They are also learnt ho to change their own habits by taking small steps. For example, they may bring their own mug to school, buy sustainably packaged products in the school shop or carry a re-usable shopping bag. To further motivate the pupils participating in the pilot programme, a two-stage (regional and national) competition with attractive prizes has been developed, to motivate classes to promote the idea of 3R Academy.

 

 

To facilitate the implementation of the project we have developed educational materials consisting of an Educational Package folder and 3 boards: REDUCE, REUSE and RECYCLE. The folders were provided to teachers during an induction training in September 2009 for teachers responsible for cooperation with our regional coordinators and educators. The boards will be provided to every class included in the year-round 3R Academy project.
